Forged in conditions of precarity, Black women have crafted a distinctive leadership legacy—one that responds to immediate dangers while anticipating liberation beyond their present circumstances. This presentation introduces the Black Women's Liberatory Leadership (BWLL) Praxis model, a framework that honors this legacy and applies its wisdom to contemporary leadership challenges. Attendees will explore how the BWLL model guides diverse clients in balancing strategic action, wellness, and joy. Through examining the model's theoretical foundations and practical applications, participants will gain insights into cultivating leadership approaches that are simultaneously responsive, visionary, and sustainable. This session offers actionable strategies for supporting leaders navigating complexity while maintaining their well-being and sense of possibility.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Analyze the historical and contextual foundations of Black women's anticipatory leadership approaches, including how conditions of precarity have shaped distinctive leadership practices that balance immediate responsiveness with long-term vision.
  2. Apply the Black Women's Liberatory Leadership (BWLL) Praxis model to real-world leadership scenarios, demonstrating how to integrate strategy, wellness, and joy in coaching and organizational contexts.
  3. Evaluate their own leadership practices and coaching approaches through the lens of anticipatory leadership, identifying opportunities to incorporate liberatory principles that honor both present challenges and future.
